Eye Movement Therapy

Eye Movement Therapy (EMT) helps people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences.

The mind and emotions will heal from psychological trauma as much as the body heals from physical trauma.  When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound, however, if a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain – it is blocked from being able to heal completely.  EMT removes the mental and emotional blocks and/or irritation so that complete healing takes place.

Stress responses are part of our natural fight, flight, or freeze instincts. When distress from a disturbing experience/event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions may create an overwhelming feeling of being back in that moment, or of being “frozen in time.” EMT therapy helps the brain process these memories and allows normal healing to take place and the fight, flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved.

One of the many benefits of EMT is that talking in detail about an issue is not required for it to be resolved, this allows for effective resolution for issues that are far too difficult to talk about.
